Harriet Tubman Colouring Sheets

Harriet Tubman was a very brave woman who believed everyone deserved to be free. She was born into slavery around 1822 in Maryland, where life was hard and unfair. Her family called her Minty, short for her first name Araminta.

When Harriet grew up, she escaped from slavery by travelling North to freedom. The journey was dangerous but she never gave up. Once she was safe she made the brave choice to help others. She went back again and again to help other enslaved people to escape too.

She changed her name to Harriet Tubman and became the leader of the Underground Railroad, a secret network of safe houses and helpers. She guided families at night always aware of the danger they were in. She once said that she never lost a single person she guided to freedom. She was a deeply religious person and people likened her to Moses and called her the "Moses of her People".

Harriet later helped the Union Army during the Civil War and spent the rest of her life helping others and fighting for fairness.

Today Harriet Tubman is remembered as a hero who showed that courage, kindness and hope can change the world.
