Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. This small country was once part of Czechoslovakia and was ruled by the Soviet Union. It broke away from the Soviets in 1990 and then from the Czech Republic in 1993 to become its own independent nation. Its capital city is Bratislava.
