Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe and is made up of the Jutland Peninsula and more than 400 islands in the North Sea. It shares a border with Germany and is mainly a flat country with gently rolling hills. Denmark is known for being the birthplace of the writer Hans Christian Andersen, its Little Mermaid statue and for being the happiest nation in the world! The national flag for Denmark is red with a white Nordic cross. According to tradition the Danish flag fell from heaven on 15 June 1219, during the battle of Lyndanisse, as a sign from God of his support for King Valdemar II against the pagan Estonians.
